“Noel may be done with us, but we are not done with him”

April 2, 2021 No Comments

The immediate days before Noel was admitted to a hospital in Tucson at the beginning of November 2019 had been especially pleasant ones for him. He was able to visit with Rachel, his daughter, and Sebastian and their children every day. And, because he was without cable TV or the

2020 Election–Impressions and Reflections

November 15, 2020 No Comments

America appears to be divided into three more or less equal parts, at least when it comes to the election results.  Thus far, just under 78 million people voted for Biden; about 73 million voted for Trump and around 78 million of eligible voters didn’t vote at all. [1]  It’s

Rehearsals (Clowns Included)

October 29, 2020 No Comments

A couple of weeks ago, an author named Jack Luna explored the significance of the Trump-supporting car/truck and boat parades on Labor Day: “With images of raucous white Americans on parade freshly troubling me, I kept turning that word — parade, parade — over in my head until it suddenly hit me like

What Does Religion Have to Do with It?

October 20, 2020 No Comments

My question is prompted by the nomination and likely approval of Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court and the reactions to that.  She is, without question, a conservative.  Some ascribe that conservatism to her deeply held religious beliefs.  Some believe that those beliefs make her unqualified while others all

“Everyone Agrees”

September 9, 2020 No Comments

When a politician, TV anchor or newspaper opinion writer starts out by saying that “Everyone agrees”, I think it’s time to pay attention.  There are not too many instances where everybody agrees—except about something that’s really wonderful or awful.  Everybody does agree, I think, that a rainbow in the sky

But what’s the moral of the story?

July 1, 2020 No Comments

On Friday, July 10th, it rained hard all day in Brooklyn.  Come mid-afternoon, we decided we needed some stuff from the nearby supermarket.  Because it was pouring, I took our car.  As I left the house, I was preoccupied with keeping my facemask dry. I parked the car, put the

About

I have been a political activist for more than fifty years.  Soon after college, I began driving a taxi in New York City and became an active member of the Taxi Rank and File Coalition.  That experience profoundly shaped my views and I remain friends with many of my taxi comrades.

In 1978, I stopped driving and entered into education work–which I then did for more than thirty years–almost all of it at the City University of New York.  That also profoundly shaped my views.

At the same time, I continued my political activities–most importantly as an editor of Race Traitor, an editor of Insurgent Notes and part of the editorial group of Hard Crackers.

The writings collected here reflect all those experiences.  My intention is to regularly post new things that I’ve written.

However you found your way here, I hope that you find something of value.  I would really like hearing from you about your thoughts and reactions. Write me here.
